Ashburton River - W.A.

After 6 weeks on the road, with 2 weeks at Alexander Bay 100k's east of Esperence, then travel via Klagoorlie, Leonora, Wiluna, Meekatharra, Mt Augustus, Gasgoyne Junction, Carnarvon and 4,045k's later it is great to camp up for awhile
(1 month) 1,320k's of dirt = corrugations, an overall average speed of 61.6kph.

Slow and steady, we get there in one piece.

Lay of the land - corrd's S21 45 619 E114 57 063 - 21k's as the crow flies, South of Onslow and 36k's by road. The dirt track in was pritty ordinary, but we have been on worse. On departing we got lucky as the shire grader had just completed road works.

The grass along the river bank was 1mtr + high, blocking our view, we just can't have that now!

Getting ready for the annexe.

This guy fairly tame!

Sue's 1st fish at 'Log Corner 'on the Ashburton. We also landed a lot of undersize Mangrove Jacks here.

Well preserved and not to 'SHABBY' for 50!!
Must be the "red's" helping!

Another shark!

Well if I am goin' to do the washing, might as well strip off & wash it all!!

Accidental crab's. Line fishing for MJ's and these guy's won't let go, so float them into our crab nets (found at the boat ramp on low tide)

Paul, John, Robin, Carol & Sue.

Another MJ and great eating!

Now this is what you call a mouth! Just a well we use wire traces.

520mm

Look close - Yep! the spider has the grass hopper!

Good mornings haul!

Now every one else has a 'LAP DOG', so why can't I!
Good on Ya! Earl.

Yeah, the beer was great, and the crab pot (drop pot) had not even been unwound, just a piece of fish wired in the middle = strange! Perhap's to many 'BEERS'

No chance of getting a bone off Sue!

Roughing it in the 'BUSH'! Helen made this delious
sponge cake and lemon custard tart.
Boat ramp at low tide .

Clarrie's fish cleaning and later smoked!

Crab feast - Ray's struggling to crack the claw!

Somewhat undersize!

Folks will be departing soon. Clarrie, Sue, Peter, Helen & Bridget.

'Garfield' was off, a real charater if you can handle his course vocabulary!

A monster 'CAT FISH' took oof like a freight train, jumped twice, good landing and even better when it was served up 'SMOKED'

This barrage was built in 1959, to stop the sea water, they obviously got it right!
A great camp spot as we were able to pump fresh water from the river.

At high tide!

Keeping presentable in the 'BUSH'

Sunrise looking west!

And that's the END of one month at the Ashburton River.
We will be returning!
